Ordering Prescription Eyewear Online...

Online shopping has almost become the norm these days.  You are sitting in the comfort of your own home researching what you are looking for in terms of desires and budget.  It is such a time saving option.

Did you know that you can even order eyeglasses online now?

If you have a prescription from your eyecare professional, you can now peruse numerous websites to look for that perfect frame you have in mind.  But be aware that ordering eyeglasses on line is not as easy as finding a book, kitchen gadget or even that "LandsEnd" sweater!

Custom fitted eyewear is an important aspect to each individual.  Finding a frame that fits and enhances your face (whether petite or average) when not trying it on could be a challenge.  Then there are certain prescriptive needs that are specific to you that need to be met.  Drs. Hansen, Pietig, and Young, and our professional team of opticians work together to ensure all of these criteria are addressed.

What about the safety and quality of prescription eyewear online? In a recent study*, it was discovered that nearly half of all glasses (44.8%) ordered online either contained an inaccurate prescription or did not meet safety standards designed to protect your eyes!  Buyer beware!!

If you decide that purchasing online is something you desire, then please check each online retailer's policies.  What is their return policy if you are not satisfied?  How do they deal with prescription inaccuracies, wrong lense coatings, etc?  Do they offer a warranty against scratched lenses or frame breakage?  What is the cost and length of shipping time?  Do they include cases, lens cloths or cleaning solutions?  Do they accept vision insurance?  What about maintenance - are you shipping your glasses back for minor adjustments and being without them until the service is completed?

At Ankeny Family Vision Center, our doctors and staff see that you have a "hands-on" experience.  We will help you determine the perfect frame, color, and type of material you desire.  We will guide you in considering the options for your lenses and lifestyle, coatings and treatments available - such as transition or computer lenses.  We are meticulous about measurements and custom fitting your individual needs.  We care about your look and how you feel walking out our door with your new eyewear!

We also have a big advantage with our "hands-on" maintenance service.  You need an adjustment, just stop in.  We also offer warranties for those who purchase with us.

Whether you work with the professionals here at Ankeny Family Vision Center or you go it alone on the internet, it is very important to be informed.  Take the time to do what is right for your eye health and your vision.  We would love to help you make the right selections to enhance your vision with the specific, individualized look that fits you and your personality!!
