April Showers Bring...Allergies

While all the new life around us is pretty, it can also give us some not so pretty allergies. A symptom that a lot of people experience is red, itchy eyes. Ankeny Family Vision Center brings you tips to help make these symptoms a bit easier to handle.

1. Simply wet a washcloth and put it in the refrigerator or freezer for a couple of hours. Once it is chilled, lie down and rest the cloth over your eyes. This should help bring some relief.
2. Wearing eye glasses instead of contacts during allergy season can help as well. Contacts can retain debris causing more irritation.
3. Eye drops can help alleviate some of the irritation too. Over the counter our doctors recommend, (Doctor Recommendation Here).
4. Try over the counter allergy medications. These can have antihistamines that diminish the itchy eye feeling. However, it is always important to consult with your primary care provider to ensure that the medication is safe for you.

Your eye care is very important to us. If none of the above tips are able to help you, please give our front desk a call. They would be happy to help you make an appointment with one of our providers to see what we can do for you.
