OPTOMAP - Bringing your eye exam to life!!

Ankeny Family Vision Center would like to share about our newest technology - the optomap!  It is a ultra-widefield digital retinal imaging device that helps Drs. Hansen, Pietig and Young make even better and informed decisions about your eye health and overall well-being!!

Our doctors know that the eyes are one of the most important of our sensory organs.  They allow us to enjoy this beautiful world, be independent, and add to our quality of life!!  Protecting our eyesight is one of the best reasons to see us yearly for that comprehensive eye health exam!

The optomap technology really brings that exam to life!!  It allows our doctors the ability to see retinal conditions and other diseases that can be treated successfully with early detection.  The retina is a delicate lining at the back of your eye similar to a camera.  Light strikes the retina through the lens in your eye and produces a picture which is then sent to the brain, enabling you to see!!  An unhealthy retina is not able to send clear signals and can result in impaired vision or blindness.  You may not even realize your retina is unhealthy as it has no nerve endings and you may not feel any pain. Early detection is very important.

The optomap's unique ultra-widefield digital retinal imaging captures more than 80% of your retina in one image.  Traditional methods typically reveal only 10-45% of your retina at one time. This allows Drs. Hansen, Pietig and Young the ability to detect even the earliest sign of disease that appears on your retina!

Your retina also is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly.  So, in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases, such as stroke, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes, can be seen.  Diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma also cause risk to your sight.

Can you see the wonderful benefits this new technology of optomap brings to our doctors?  It only takes seconds to perform, is not painful, and does not require dilation - however, the doctors may decide dilation is still needed!

Another added benefit is having a digital record of your retinal health on file which can be compared for changes over time!!

Call us for that needed comprehensive eye health exam!!  Experience our optomap and ask to see your beautiful eye!!
